UTC student awarded prestigious Arkwright Scholarship

One of our students, Lee Reynoldson, has been accepted into the Arkwright Scholarship Programme. The scholarship will support and sponsor Lee through his A-Level studies for the next two years and follow his career journey wherever it may take him.
GCSE Tips and Tricks

As it draws closer to next years’ Year 11 exams, Year 10 students at the UTC will be doing a week of mock exams commencing the 12th June. By doing this, the students will get a taste of what it will be like when it finally comes to doing the actual GCSE’s.

Jenny Trapp, a former Air Traffic Controller who is currently Assistant Headteacher at Queen Elizabeth High School, Hexham, has been appointed as Deputy Principal of UTC South Durham.

We were delighted to welcome students to founding member Hitachi's new site on Aycliffe Business Park. Students undertook a behind-the-scenes look around a carriage that will become part of an Intercity Express Programme train destined for Great Western and East Coast mainlines.

Train production underway at Hitachi

Since the Prime Minister opened the new Hitachi Rail Vehicle Manufacturing Facility in Newton Aycliffe in September, the production process has begun in earnest.

Progress on our building has been impressive. From a muddy field and through some pretty grim weather, our construction contractors Willmott Dixon have levelled the site and erected a decent amount of steelwork.

Parents fear children won't find jobs

New research released today by the Baker Dearing Educational Trust shows that for two thirds of parents their biggest fear is that their children will not find a job when they leave education.
