Product Design (A-Level)

Every product made by humans has been designed and manufactured. Product designers have a responsibility to design useful products which work effectively, and are efficient and environmentally friendly.

Throughout the A-level Design and Technology students are able to:

  • Engage in both practical and theoretical study to develop design and practical skills
  • Develop their understanding of technical and design and make principles
  • Focus on graphics or 3D design
  • Create practical project work
  • Build a coursework portfolio

Assessment

  • 1 x 1 hour 30 minute exam at the end of Year 13 (20% of the final mark)
  • 1 x 2 hour 30 minute exam at the end of Year 13 (30% of the final mark)
  • Design and Make Project (50% of the final mark)

Entry requirements

  • Minimum of grades 4/5 in GCSE Maths and GCSE English Language
  • Previous experience of a Design and Technology subject is useful, but not essential
