Student Support Team

Student Support

At UTC South Durham, we understand students need support and guidance to help them become successful young adults. Meetings with families before starting with us is an integral part of ensuring that we get to know our students as individuals.

Student Support pride themselves on their ability to effortlessly build positive relationships with students. This ensures that their time at UTC is a positive and enriching experience.

Alongside education and guidance, safeguarding and child protection are our primary concern. We work closely with families and local authorities to ensure that our students feel safe and well supported, this includes working alongside dedicated organisations who can offer specialised additional support for those issues not necessarily related to college or school life.

We are committed to improving access to learning and provide a wide range of support. Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) supports students' additional learning needs, through 1:1 intervention and group work. This is delivered to focus on academic support, social development and confidence building.

With a strong emphasis on preparing students for outstanding STEM careers, careers guidance is central to thier development. Focussing on employability skills, as well as academic success, ensures that students build the skills needed to thrive upon leaving UTC. Our partners, Hitachi Rail Europe, Gestamp Tallent and the University of Sunderland, are committed to creating an outstanding school that will provide a talented young workforce for companies in the North of England.
