Computer Science

Students at UTC can choose to study Computer Science or Information and Creative Technology at GCSE as one of their optional subjects.

Computer Science at UTC South Durham focuses on preparing our students for the workplace, which is increasingly reliant on digital technology. Computer science is about understanding the fundamental mathematical and scientific building blocks of computers as well as the structural architecture. Students learn to programme in a number of languages.

Throughout the two years at GCSE, students will learn to understand and apply the fundamental principles of computer science including programming, algorithms, data representation, computer hardware, and network security.

At UTC South Durham, we deliver OCR GCSE Computer science specification which enables learners to gain an insight into a number of key fields of computer science, and helps to prepare students for employment in the digital technologies industry.
