Design and Technology

Students at UTC can choose to study Product Design at GCSE as one of their optional subjects.

Every product made by humans has been designed and manufactured. Product designers have a responsibility to design useful products which work effectively, and are efficient and environmentally friendly. Understanding the design process and being able to communicate ideas are important skills for designers, engineers and manufacturers.

Our Design and Technology GCSE course enables students to design and make products with creativity and originality, using a range of materials and techniques. The curriculum is taught in line with business and industry demands and products are designed to specific design criteria set by the AQA exam board. Students are encouraged to consult with real industry and individual clients, to use practical equipment, computer aided design (CAD) and modelling skills to evaluate and make prototype products and bespoke designs.
