Last week our very own JP headed off to Birmingham NEC to take part in the British Brazilian Jui Jitsu Championships. He has only gone and won and is now the British Champion following an impressive 9-2 win in the final.
JP is a core part of our UTC community, the local community and the sporting community in our region and we are bursting with pride. This medal is a credit to all the hard work he puts in day in day out.
Sport plays a huge role in the lives of both our staff and students outside of their work and studies. JP has been involved in BJJ for a few years now and has gone from strength to strength in the sport. We know he trains hard at his craft working in a gym or on his fitness for up to three hours a day alongside inspiring the next generation of Engineers here at UTC.
JP said, "It's great to know that all the hard work and early mornings has finally paid off. It was a great fight, I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and I am over the moon to have come home as the British Champion.
"I often see young people from the communities that surround UTC in the gym. For them to see a familiar face and someone performing at this level alongside my role at UTC is great, I'm hoping to inspire them not only professionally as an engineer but as a professional sportsman too."
We are looking forward to seeing JP's next move with his Jui Jitsu career; keep your eyes peeled for news on his progress.
From all of us here at UTC, congratulations JP, what an achievement!
