UTC South Durham is consulting relevant stake holders on their proposal to admit Year 9 students to the UTC from September 2021. UTC South Durham currently offers provision for 14-19 year olds, with students starting at the school in Year 10.

The UTC currently recruits up to 150 students into Year 10 (aged 14), as well as recruiting to the Sixth Form. The proposal is to recruit up to 100 students at age 13 (the start of Year 9) and to recruit the remaining students at age 14 (the start of Year 10).

Students starting at UTC in Year 9 will be able to study a range of subjects, including different engineering disciplines, before making the decision on their GCSE subject choices for Year 10. UTC South Durham offers access to state-of-the-art engineering equipment, projects run by industry partners, and careers information and advice embedded into the curriculum.

The consultation period runs from 4 May 2020 to 15 June 2020, and two virtual consultation events have been scheduled for relevant stakeholders to attend. These events will take place at 5pm on Tuesday 2nd and Thursday 11th June. For further information on the Year 9 consultation, please follow this link.
