Tom, who'll be training with the Newcastle Falcons

The whole country may be swept up with Euro 2020 fever at the moment with the belief that it’s coming home this summer, but for one UTC Student, he’s focused on a future with a different shaped ball.

Rugby-mad Tom in Year 10 has been invited to train with Newcastle Falcons this week! Currently playing for Stockton, Tom tells us that his coach was approached by the Falcons and he is now one of nine to be selected to join up with the Premiership side.

When he’s there, Tom will take part in DPP Trials, before completing some gym work and some high quality training on the pitch at Kingston Park. As well as trials and bleep tests, Tom will look at his diet plan and exercise routine, utilising the expertise he has gained in his PE lessons with the UTC.

An academic and sporty young man, Tom loves Engineering and has previously demonstrated an interest in joining the army, but it is sport where his passion truly lies.

Having played football for ten years, he is now looking at a career as a professional rugby player, sometimes playing as a Flanker and sometimes in the Centre. “I’d love to play for England,” says Tom, “But I really want to play for the Lions. And I will get there.”

Tom’s determination and enthusiasm is infectious and there’s no denying that he is definitely going to be a household name.
