On Wednesday 22nd September UTC South Durham welcomed representatives from STEM Learning, The Institute of  Cast Metal Engineers, Sugar Hill, West Park Academy, Heighington, Stephenson Way Academy, Mowden, St Mary's, Byerley Park, Escombe and Aycliffe Village Primary Schools to the launch event of the Enthuse Partnership.

Following an introduction from Partnership Lead Jamie Smith, those in attendance were walked through three demonstrations that representatives will later carry out within their respective primary schools.

Starting off with chocolate and progressing onto using aluminium these demonstrations focused on melting and pouring the materials into pre made moulds. Doing these demonstrations facilities learning into; different materials melting points, moulding processes and finishing techniques.

With assistance from UTC South Durham, STEM learning and the Institute of Cast Engineers it is envisaged that with increased exposure to STEM activities, primary school children will be able to experience a higher quality education in these areas. Ultimately, this will ease the transition to secondary school education and kick start their future careers in STEM.

We’d like to thank all the representatives who attended the event and everyone at UTC South Durham is looking forward to seeing the positive impact the partnership will have on the STEM sector within the local community.
