Welcome to Maths!
Mathematics is used every day, everywhere. As well as preparing us for our future lives and careers, mathematics aims to improve confidence and skills in problem solving, logical and analytical thinking, codebreaking and calculation.
We offer students three different Maths courses:
- A Level Maths
- Further Maths
- Core Maths*
*Core Maths is worth half an A Level and is a suitable for students who want to develop further mathematical understanding for the application of maths. This helps students meet University entry requirements through UCAS points whilst building upon GCSE knowledge.
A Level Maths
A-level Mathematics extends the skills covered at GCSE, particularly those in algebra and trigonometry. This course focuses on pure mathematics, with some applications of mechanics and statistics.
Assessment
- Exam Board: Edexcel Mathematics
- 3x 2 hour exam (taken at the end of Year 13)
Entry Requirements
- Grade 4+ in English
- Grade 7+ in Maths
- Positive attitude to learning evidenced by a school report
Learning Journey
A Level Maths: Learning Journey
Further Maths
Further Maths takes a much deeper look at some of the areas covered in A-level Maths, as well as exploring other areas of mathematics such as graph theory, complex numbers and matrices. Students can opt to study A-level Further Mathematics alongside their A-level Maths course.
Entry Requirements
- Grade 4+ in English
- Grade 7+ in Maths
- Positive attitude to learning evidenced by a school report
Core Maths
Core Maths focuses on the application of maths, including in personal finance, and the estimation and analysis of data. Core Maths is a Level 3 course (the equivalent of an AS
