Use of IT & E-Safety Advice

At UTC South Durham we are proud to be at the forefront of STEM education and provide our students with opportunities to explore the latest technology in the classroom and how it’s used in industry.  As a result, new technologies are integral part of all our students’ lives, and it is crucial that we safeguard our students online.

In order to protect our pupils we have created a range of policies designed to promote the safe use of technology in school and beyond:

The UTC supports access to ICT through three dedicated IT suites, one of which is a CAD suite for teaching 2D and 3D design.  There are also seven laptop caddies which are used within subjects to enhance the delivery of the curriculum.  Students have their own Wifi access which is managed through an external service provider.  Sixth form students are encouraged to bring their own devices (BOYD) into college and can access their home drives using a bespoke login system.

Students and staff sign an acceptable use policy (AUP) which clearly outlines the UTC’s expectations in respect to ITC systems and hardware.  Other policies including E-Safety, Data Protection and those to do with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) are available from the main office in hard copy or from the policy area on the website.

Help and advice for parents
