Work experience is an opportunity for students to gain a valuable insight into the world of work and allow them to experience a career that may be relevant to them for their future.
Work experience can be crucial to getting a job. It shows potential employers that you have a diversity of enrichment and have an understanding about the work place. It shows that you are passionate about the job and are willing to work hard.
If you are undecided about your career, work experience is an opportunity to try out something different and find out what you want to do in the future.
Students on work experience will be able to develop their work place skills, a core vision for UTC students to help make them more desirable for future employers.
Work experience also helps students expand and build a network of valuable contacts. Work experience employers are often keen to give references or may recommend you to one of their contacts for possible future opportunities.
All students at the UTC get the opportunity to complete the The Baker Award for Technical Education To achieve this award students must complete a minimum of one week of work experience.
All students at UTC are encouraged to complete a work experience placement:
- Year 10 students are encouraged to complete one week of work experience.
- Year 12 students are encouraged to complete two weeks of work experience.
- Year 11 and Year 13 students are encouraged to complete a work experience or gain an extended work placement during their holidays and free time.
All students are expected to find their own placements and are all subject to rigorous health and safety checks and risk assessment before a placement can be arranged.
