Robert John Yorke is a business leader, former local councillor and passionate advocate for apprenticeships, technical education and community development. After completing his GCSEs, he attended Bishop Auckland and Darlington College and the SW Durham Training Centre, undertaking a toolmaking apprenticeship and gaining City & Guilds, HNC and HND qualifications. This blend of technical education and practical experience laid the foundation for his career.

Robert began as an apprentice with Teescraft Engineering Ltd in Bishop Auckland, progressing through the company before leading a management buyout in 2003. Since then, he has transformed the business from a workforce of four employees into a group employing more than 240 people across several sites throughout the UK.

Alongside his business achievements, Robert served in local government for over twenty years, including on Durham County Council from 2008 to 2024. He played an active role in economic regeneration, planning, skills development, investment, and business growth across County Durham.

A lifelong supporter of young people, Robert has volunteered with the 2nd Bishop Auckland Scout Group for more than thirty years. He is also a trustee and former chair of The Auckland Project, helping drive the heritage-led regeneration of Bishop Auckland. Outside work, he enjoys fishing, walking his dog and pursuing his enthusiasm for specialist and performance cars.
