Computer Science

Welcome to A Level Computer Science!

This course focuses on preparing our students for the modern digital world and workplace. Computer Science is about understanding the fundamental mathematical and scientific building blocks of computers, including: programming, algorithms, data representation, computer hardware, and cyber security. Students also learn programming languages, including Python.

  • Fundamentals of programming
  • Algorithms
  • Computer systems, organisation and architecture
  • Consequences of uses of computing
  • Communication and networking
  • Functional programming

Assessment

Exam Board: OCR A Level Computer Science

  • 2 x 1 hour 30 minute exams at end of Year 13 (80%)
  • 20% practical assessment

Entry requirements

  • Grade 6+ in GCSE Maths, ICT (or computing)
  • Grade 4+ in GCSE English Language
  • Positive attitude to learning evidenced by a school report
