PEO: Engineering Practices

Welcome to Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) Engineering Practices!

This pathway is based on producing components using hand fitting techniques, preparing and using lathes for turning operations and using CNC machines.

Topics include:

  • Safe working practices. Working safely, understanding rules, risk assessments
  • Carrying out engineering activities. Following production plans and hitting deadlines
  • Communicating technical information. Understanding and producing engineering drawings
  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques.
  • Preparing and using lathes for turning operations.
  • Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) milling or Computer Aided Design (CAD)

Assessment

All units are assessed against a set criteria. There is a holistic approach to assessment which involves a portfolio of evidence, witness testimonies and verbal questioning to measure knowledge and understanding of key principles.

Students must complete underpinning knowledge questions at the end of each unit (25-30 questions) as well as manufacture all parts within tolerance.

Entry Requirements

  • Grade 3 or better in English and Maths GCSE
  • A good attitude as seen from a recent school report
